How to Maintain Your Dentures

Whitening

Because dentures are made of plastic, whitening them like real teeth is impossible. Clean your dentures daily to eliminate food, plaque, and bacteria to reduce staining. Dentures won’t get permanently stained if you brush with a soft toothbrush or a denture brush. This will also keep your mouth healthy.

Scrubbing

Apply non-abrasive soap or denture paste after dampening the brush. Gently scrub every surface, both inside and out, with a brush. Most stains can be safely removed using various over-the-counter denture cleanser products. Unless your dentist or prosthodontist gives you specific instructions on using bleach, avoid using bleach on your dentures.

Disinfecting

You can clean and disinfect your dentures with diluted household bleach, but wait to use bleach until you see your prosthodontist for instructions. Your prosthodontist might need to remove more difficult stains.

Brushing

Avoid using regular toothpaste to brush your dentures. Although dentures are made of durable plastic toothpaste can damage them because they frequently contain ingredients and chemicals not suitable for your dentures. And even the plastic is sturdy, it’s not as durable as tooth enamel and can be damaged if toothpaste is used to clean your dentures.

You should hand-clean your dentures daily using dishwashing liquid and a specialized brush. Dentures should be thoroughly rinsed before being immersed in the water-based cleaning solution for the night.
