A Week Following the Treatment

After your implant procedure, you may experience pain and other symptoms for up to a week. After three to seven days, the pain and tenderness may persist at the implant site. However, the pain will eventually subside and fade with proper medication.

Generally, you can return to work or school one to two days after your surgery. To help you recover faster, you’ll need to take your medicine as prescribed by your dentist. The bleeding should stop within three to four days, and the bruising and swelling should begin to subside. Remember to avoid any strenuous activities during the first week after your operation.

One to Three Months After the Treatment

Your mouth should completely heal within two to three weeks after implant placement surgery. Around this time, your dentist will notify you and schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure your implant is healing properly.

While you should already be pain-free, exerting pressure on your implant may still cause slight discomfort. If you still feel pain, swelling, and bruising, you should talk to your dentist immediately. It’s incredibly uncommon to experience acute pain for one to two weeks or longer following the placement of dental implants.

If the pain persists, it may indicate a problem with your implant. It could have become infected, failed to adhere to your gums and jaw, or even been rejected due to a metal allergy. When this happens, get in touch with your dentist immediately to get it checked.
