Types of Dental Implants

Endosteal Implants

The most popular and secure implants available today are endosteal implants. In this procedure, screws are put into the jawbone to act as placeholders for artificial teeth. Most patients prefer this option over dental bridges or detachable dentures because they appear more natural and secure.

Zygomatic Implants

Zygomatic implants are usually employed when an insufficient jawbone supports an endosteal implant. During this operation, the implants are inserted using the zygomatic bone as an anchor through the maxillary sinus and alveolar crest. This procedure can be performed only if the patient’s dental arch has deteriorated considerably or been injured.

Subperiosteal Implants

Subperiosteal implants are inserted underneath the surface of the bone. They’re fitted with this implant to secure their dentures if the patient’s jawbone is too thin or doesn’t have enough height for implant placement. A metal implant post implanted beneath the gum line secures the denture to the jawbone.

Additional Dental Implant Methods

Although these implant kinds are the most frequently used when attaching false teeth, different techniques are used when treating a patient. Here are some more dental procedures utilized during dental implant surgery:

  • Bone transplant
  • Jaw adjustment
  • Nasal lift
  • Bone enhancement
  • Ridge growth
