ANESTHESIA
Biscayne Dental Center and Spa has several methods of anesthesia available to help you with your dental treatment.
Local Anesthesia : The patient remains totally conscious throughout the procedure. A local anesthetic (e.g. lidocaine) is administered in the area where the treatment is to be performed. Local anesthetic is used in conjunction with the other methods of anesthesia in all oral surgery procedures.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation with Local Anesthesia: Biscayne Dental Center offer Nitrous Oxide Sedation with Local Anesthetic a mixture of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen is administered through a nasal breathing apparatus. The patient remains conscious in a relaxed condition. Nitrous oxide has a sedative and analgesic (pain- controlling) effect. Depending on your specific concerns and needs Biscayne Dental Center doctors may recommend Oral Sedation or Conscious IV Sedation.
Oral Sedation: Biscayne Dental Center dentists will prescribe prescription medications to help you relax before your appointment. Oral sedation is often used in conjunction with Nitrous Oxide to help eliminate or reduce anxiety before treatment. There are several commonly prescribed medications. Each medication lasts for a different period. Biscayne Dental Center doctors first determines what type of oral conscious sedation is right for you.
Conscious IV Sedation: Biscayne Dental Center also offers Intravenous or IV conscious sedation. Office Based General Anesthesia with Local Anesthetic*Medications are administered through an intravenous line (I.V.). The patient falls asleep and is completely unaware of the procedure being performed. Medications most commonly used are Fentanyl (opiate), Versed (benzodiazepine). Supplemental oxygen is delivered through a nasal breathing apparatus and the patient’s vital signs are closely monitored. Depending on your overall physical health. Dr. Rafael Urbino our sedation specialist will decide if you are a candidate for this type of sedation. Should you elect to receive IV conscious sedation, you need to make plans to have a family member to drive you home.
